Celebrating the late John Tavener, who died in November 2013, Reverie presents a programme centred around three of his seminal works – ‘Song for Athene’, ‘The Lamb’ and ‘Funeral Ikos’ – and explores the choral output of Tavener, his contemporaries, and those who have been influenced by his unique style. In addition to Tavener’s more famous works, Reverie will perform two lesser known pieces – ‘As One Who Has Slept’, a transcendental reflection on Orthodoz Liturgy described by the composer as a work of “awe, silence and expectation”, and ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, a simple and spiritual setting. The programme also includes works by some of the finest British composers of the 20th Century – Herbert Howells, Vaughan Williams and James Macmillan, as well as work from new composer, Ed Rex.
Proceeds from this concert will be used to support the Elisa Sednaoui Foundation‘s pilot workshop for children in Luxor, Egypt. More information about the performance can be found here.
